Rewired

August 14, 2008:

Be ready and be prepared for a night that will surely be written in history. Rewired on August 23 will feature the DJ who is arguably the best in this country: Funk Avy. As Rewired's continuing theme of pushing things forward, Funk will be playing live with live vocalists from today's hottest bands: Diego Mapa of Pedicab and Sarah Marco of Taken by Cars. If that is not enough to entice you to come over, supporting the night will be the young dj guns: Miguel Dado, Martin Atayde, John Spakowski and Joseph Palisoc of Team EMC and Manila Underground.

Again, as we always say, join us and move forward. If not you may choose to be stuck in the past and be left behind.

May 20, 2008:

Thanks to all who attended the stormer of an anniversary we had last May 10. Toti Dalmacion's set was an absolutely wicked. He kept the dancefloor busy all throughout. Again, proof that we don't need to hear the same old cheesy anthems to make people dance. This Saturday May 24, we've got beauty and the beats with Lady Trinity and Miss Badkiss. These two ladies can rock and if you haven't experienced their music, then come on and head over to Warehouse 135 this saturday!

April 15, 2008:

We've been saying this since last year, the better days are here. Proof was last Saturday at Groove Nation's Consortium at Warehouse 135: Toti Dalmacion playing an absolute stunner of a set throwing the best tech house, we've heard making people dance with flow and funkiness and without an obvious anthem in sight. Later on for after hours and straight from the airport, Nathan Coles keeps people at the club til 9am! A week before this, Aldrin of Zouk plays a set of deep, melodic tech, minimal and electro. Who said Manila is not ready to dance this sh*t?! Yes folks, there is an alternative to the mainstream.

Respect, Rekindle and Reconnect. Check out the mixes of our featured DJs on our music page. We truly believe they are world class. Be part of a movement.

Rewired: Reconnecting Manila Clubbing.

May 2008 Mix by Adrian Cuenca

Underground? Cutting Edge? Non-Mainstream? Whatever. Good music for your brain as well as your dancing shoes. Do we mention the word 'journey'? Just download and have a listen. Definitely not your over-played cheesy anthems. Music and art is changing and changing all the time. Lets not get stuck in the past, and lets all look towards the future.

Another night of dancing to quality good music with no cheese whatsoever. Thanks to the beautiful DJs Lady Trinity and Miss Badkiss who both created a storm on the dancefloor! Thanks also to Martin Javellana for a quality opening set. We again proved to Manila that people can dance to our sh*t! Thanks to Lady Trinity for the photos.

ELEcTRIKcITY: Ableton Live DJ Set by Funk Avy & Lady Trinity

The next level of DJing. This is not your usual DJ set. These are two DJs producing, remixing, sampling and of course mixing tracks, riffs, acapelas and tweaking and whatever else they are doing. What makes this mix great is that it is geared towards the dancefloor. This is funky and groovy enough to make you dance. Listen a bit more and it will definitely take you on a journey (cliché as it sounds). There are 28 tracks and 10 acappelas fit in just over an hour. This is definitely world class.

DJmag.com: Top 100 Clubs

The DJs have spoken. Every year, the world's top DJs vote on their favorite club and this year, the top club is Fabric, London. It reclaimed the spot they lost last year.

Here's a point to ponder: Fabric and most of the clubs in that list play a lot of cutting edge music. In fact you won't find a club in that list that plays commercial 'tantalizing vocal' crap. Fabric is known for its breakbeats and drum & bass on Friday and its minimal techno, tech house on Saturdays. In Manila, most clubs including the most popular one, still refuses to play these genres. I guess 'super' does not necessarily mean world class. ;=)

This weekend, a Fabric regular, Nathan Coles will be playing at Groove Nation's Consoritum this Saturday April 12 at Warehouse 135. 'nuff

Shhh..On Air

At last, deliverance. Rewired finally made it on the air, albeit after a faux pas that delayed it for a day. I'd like to think of it as akin to other historical events suffering tentative false starts. Led Zep's oft-rescheduled but otherwise grand world tour and the flaming mis-docking mess of the Hindenburg (still the fireworks show of the last century) are examples that come to mind for curious reasons. In our case, allowances were made for sheer technical dificulties as well as the gentle empathy we feel for brothers-in-trade who, for greater or less reasons, endure through narcotic angst of some sort not far removed from our own.

What mattered most: that our funked up importantly angry groove made it into every mossy hole of an over pop-ulated city well within radioshot. It was one of the most precious 24 hours in our young furtive existence. It matters most that Manila realizes it is cu...

Borhead is one of those responsible for the reef (www.reefonline.com). as a DJ and a producer, Borhead is a walking flexibility.
Miss BadKiss

Miss Badkiss aka Christina Bartges is a half German DJ that plays an impeccable array of electro and techno mostly from her home country Germany. She got musically inspired hanging out out her favorite club Erste Liga in Munich, watching the club's residents Munk. Munk is now a popular artist who have releases by the label Gomma who have on its roster, Headman and Princess Superstar. Today, Miss Badkiss is the current resident DJ of Elektro Disco, Soundsgood's Friday nights at M Café. Her DJing skill has brought her all around the country. Her collection of vinyl is constantly updated as she plays the latest in minimal techno, electro, discopunk and anything funky enough to make anyone dance. While she's not behind the decks, she's busy designing and for her hip urban label die marie.

Watch her go head to head with another female DJ Lady Trinity at Rewired, Warehouse 135 on November

Rewired Warehouse 135 Oct 13 2007: Kevin Ruiz

“A really great DJ is totally capable of making a bad record sound okay, a good record sound great, and a great record sound fantastic-by the context they put them in, and what they put around them. How they steer them. They can do all kinds of tricks. A great DJ can make people spontaneously cheer just for a little squelchy noise. Which is quite insane really. A little noise like wha-wha-wha and people go, ‘Yeeeaaah!’ They can have people clapping along to a cymbal, just by the way they’re bringing it in. When it’s done well, it’s fantastic. If it’s done really well, it can be quite transcendental”

The word for today. Movement
Movement: a group of people working together to advance their shared political, social, or artistic ideals.

Our Movement:
-	To promote the DJ as an artist, where flow and creativity is the key, no need for anthems.
-	To promote the DJ/Artist producing and playing their own original Filipino music.
-	To push new and exciting music. We care about our clientele; we will not deprive them of new music.
-	To promote real experienced veteran DJs that are truly deserving of the limelight.
-	For Manila to be at par (or even better) than the clubs around the world such as Fabric, the End, Zouk, DC-10, Cocoon.
-	To do things differently: having two or three DJs play at the same time, having a video jockey.
-	For the deserving Filipino DJ/Artist to achieve international success.
…while others have the audacity to call themselves a movement.

This Saturday, October 13, we have another exclusive: the legendary Kevin Ruiz plays a 4 hour set. Be prepare...

Rewired Sept 22, 2007 Warehouse 135: Kevin Ruiz vs. Funk Avy with Travis Monsod

The word for today: Arrogant. adjective. having or revealing an exaggerated sense of one’s own importance or abilities.

Anyways….
It was another Rewired night to remember at Warehouse 135. Travis Monsod opens up nicely for the main event: Kevin Ruiz vs. Funk Avy. The two veteran heavyweights start very slow and deep. They slowly build the energy before it goes mental. House music is all about building tension and release, as the two totally understand this concept. The dance floor was loving it. As promised, the crowd was taken on a journey; from deep house to minimal techno to electro to breakbeats to techno to some trance even. The two DJs were scratching, using effects and whatever they could get their able hands on. They made people dance with flow and creativity (and not with big room ‘floor fillers’ or cheessy vocal anthems). Watching the two was mind-boggling, listening and dancing to the two was mind blowing. The two were feeding off each other’s creativity and then...

Kevin Ruiz

Kevin Ruiz is one of the country’s legendary DJs and is still one of the most highly rated. In the late nineties to 2003, he was resident of ABGs and then of seveneightorange, two clubs that were a big part of the house music revolution in Manila. His six-hour sets at seveneightorange made him famous. He is one of the very few in the local scene who can take you on a journey. Born and raised in New York City, he has kept the NYC influence in his music. Kevin’s music is very up to date as he is sent the latest tracks from DJs and producers around the world. He is also one of the few house DJs who can scratch and use proper effects in his DJ sets. He has played alongside numerous big name DJs/Artists such as Chicane, Deep Dish and recently, Café Mambo Ibiza resident Pete

Another Rewired Warehouse 135 Exclusive: Kevin Ruiz vs. Funk Avy

How do we top our last Rewired night which featured the Teichmann Brothers and Rubber Inc? Honestly, we can’t (unless we fly in Ricardo Villalobos, Miss Kittin, Booka Shade or the like). What we will do is still maintain the innovation and the high level of clubbing.

This Saturday, Sept 22, we bring you another Rewired Warehouse 135 exclusive: Kevin Ruiz vs. Funk Avy. Two of the countries finest DJs go head to head in what looks like to be the DJing equivalent of a Manny Pacquiao fight. Opening set by another veteran, Travis Monsod.

Prepare for another night of party mayhem. Manila, you now have a choice for a real clubbing night

Rewired Sept 8 2007: The Teichmann Brothers, Rubber Inc + Funk Avy

What a night it was. Here are photos compiled from different sources and still waiting for more.

How could we describe the vibe? Really, we can't and after a week, we are still speechless. We would like to quote our good friend Sheila who posted photos last week saying that Manila needs more events like this. That is the main thrust of Rewired, we will try our best.

Rewired Warehouse 135: Teichmann Brothers (Germany) and Rubber Inc. + Funk Avy

We are slowly getting back to reality after the legendary night last Saturday and we are finally finding the words to describe the night. The music, the vibe, and the people: The old faces from ABGs, Kemistry and the consortiums, the clubbers from the British School, other expat clubbers, the Local//:e!! gang, Edge and the soundsgood crew, DJs like Mulan, Erwin, Calph8, Badkiss, Red-I, Brando, Jessie, Tony, the Fluxxe crew and everyone else who know their music and their clubbing. It was surely a demonstration and a statement from the underground: We are alive and kicking.

We won't stop talking about the next level and we will continue to innovate to bring it even higher. Come October, he still won't get it.

Photos coming very
